The Lobby - A New Look
Walk into PITS Campus this Monday and witness an upgrade to the look of our Lobby.

Those who use Facebook on regular basis can use the http://www.facebook.com/groups/245811832096457?ap=1 (PITS Notice Board) registered on Facebook. This was setup by Prakash Anand.
For those who find internet access difficult after leaving college premises, you can sign up for the PITSNOTICEBOARD service jointly launched by T Siva and Dinesh Kumar of the final year. After sign-up you can receive messages on your registered mobile phone. These messages are essentially broadcast messages sent using 'smschannels' (a product of google labs.)

Rare Books in our Library
We take this opportunity to thank Prof. Dr. Robert McGhie and Prof. Dr. G. Krishnamoorthy for facilitating our Library with a collection of Rare books.

Getting your Passports
Recently many have been asking instructions on how and where to obtain a Passport.
I am answering this question exclusively to Indian Citizens. The nearest Passport Office to the College is at Tiruchirappalli - often aliased as Trichy. A
However, all the forms required for applying for a Passport are available online, at this location: http://passport.gov.in/cpv/Forms.htm
Just visit the URL cited above and download the requisite Passport forms. Form 1, Form 2 and Form 3 are the three main forms. Instructions on which forms should be filled is clear on the Government website.
To reduce travel for those who stay a little further away from Trichy, the Government has introduced new Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) which began their operations from yesterday.
You can get some preliminary information on where the Passport Seva Kendras are available from this article which was published on The Hindu. (Please read http://www.hindu.com/2011/06/28/stories/2011062854970300.htm for an online archive of the article.)
Further, students who are from a different part of India, preferably another state or over 300km away from Trichy can still file their Passport request at Trichy. Once they receive a docket number, they will be approached or called for a date on which they can provide the original documents to the Passport Clerk for verification. This process usually takes only one day. Students may take their certificates from college with the permission of the A.O. after intimating the Director of Placement and getting his approval.
The second part of Passport application is an Address Verification conducted by the District Police (of the District where you have permanent residence.) The Police authorities, upon confirming that the permanent residence details are accurate will permit the Passport Department to continue their process of issuing the Passport.
A newly issued Passport can be collected from the Passport Office once they announce its availability. The Passport can also be sent by registered post or special post addressed to the individual at their Permanent address (or in rare cases, the address of communication.) This will have be collected and countersigned in person by the applicant. Once the Passport is received, please ensure that all photographs and signatures provided are accurate.
Those who do not have your Graduate Degree certificate may not be eligible for "Emigration Clearance Not Required" (ECNR). Please talk to the Passport Office to find for the procedure to obtain while you have not yet received your Graduate Degree Document. This will be essential before applying for "work" in other countries. Studying abroad will not be affected by the lack of 'ECNR' for most countries we can travel to.
If you intend to take the services of a Travel Agent, please take extreme care to ensure that none of your documents are misplaced and your identity is not stolen or forged for someone else. It is better that we have this completed by our own selves and not by agents to avoid fraud and forgery.

Getting Ready for RILA
Everyone here has been making extensive preparations for RILA 2011 - which starts tomorrow.
There are many special resource personnel coming over from far away, just to meet and work with the students of the batch (2008-2012).
Several activities and sessions have been planned out. The event will be coordinated by the Dean, Mrs. Nirmala. Those who need any clarifications can please get in touch with the Dean or Mr. Sunil or ED or Chairman on the days of the events.
About 150 Students have received their blazers, suits and ties today at the campus and some had them corrected.
Chairman had a quick photo session with some of the students while preparing for RILA. Here are some preview photographs from the session.
Participants must ensure that they are wearing their blazers at the opening ceremony which is at "Lecture Theatre 2" (first floor.)
College starts functioning at 8:30am, late-comers will be dealt with severely.
Those who do not attend RILA without prior notice or due notice will have disciplinary activity initiated against them. This may include severe measures including suspension.
Tents are also being erected for students who will be attending the RILA session. Here are some pictures from the site.
Participants must ensure that they follow the Spoken English Rule. Defaulters will be sent for a separate English Bootstrap camp apart from on the spot punishments.
Quick Schedule prior to the beginning of RILA
All Students must report to their respective classrooms (latest) by 9:30am where they will be given instructions for the session.
Day Scholars - Girls may move the common room with their bags for directions on Hostel room allotment and accommodation. The hostels will close at 9:30am strictly.
Day Scholars - Boys must go to the Hostel premises between 8:30 am and 9:30 am to find room allotments and to keep their bags.
Those who are unable to get to the hostel or get room allotments between 8:30am and 9:30am are requested to secure their bags in designated common rooms well ahead of the session.
Mobile Phones
Students who are bringing mobile phones to the campus must register them and place them with the custody of staff in-charge of Hostel accommodation. Those who do not register their mobile phones will have them confiscated for the entire semester.
Laptops
Students are allowed to carry and use laptops during sessions and activities. It is the responsibility of participants to keep their laptops secure.
All students will be provided with notebooks for usage during the classroom sessions. Please use them wisely.

RILA Etiquette
PITS RILA - EtiquetteA)Follow Dress Codes strictly:
1.Inaugural & Valedictory : Full Suit.
2. Seminar Resource Person Sessions: Formal Colour Dress (Gents: + Colour tie)
3. Activity Sessions : Casual. RILA T Shirts or Colour dress (Other T-shirts or short shirts not allowed)
B) Maintain punctuality – if you don’t you will not be allowed to attend session. You will be “imprisoned” in the library.
C) Maintain decorum and good behavior. Don’t forget to wish resource persons.
D) Maintain silence in the hostel during “Silence Hours”.
E) Be sportive and participate in all the activities – games, activities, asking questions, talent time.etc.
F) All of you should eat your lunch with fork & spoon only.
G) You should pack up your things in the hostel on the morning of 26th itself and vacate the hostel soon after the program is over since II & III yr hostelers will be arriving from 26th evening.
H) Don’t forget to take notes -It will be useful in life!
